Following the Nile south

After leaving the border town of Wadi Halfa we make our way south, guided by the Nile. In Abri we meet Magzoub — who wastes no time arranging us a boat to camp on one of the river islands.

Following the Nile south

Magzoub shows us around and we pick up some supplies for our night on the island...

A short boat ride later we arrive. After some exploring and meeting some inquisitive island residents we set up camp for the night and enjoy the beautiful sunset.

After a great night's sleep we head back into Abri to pick up some supplies before heading further south guided by the river.

The local market gives us the opportunity to pick up some fresh fruits to keep us going in the heat.

After helping Magzoub run some errands and take a look at a faulty water pump we continue on foot along the riverbank.

Whether hitchiking, walking through villages or in the middle of nowhere sudanese hospitality can always be found. We've already lost count the amount of times we've generously been invited to foul (bottom left), thamiya (centre), tea and dates (bottom right) along the way...
