The road to Khartoum
The exhaustion of an arduous 24-hour border crossing quickly faded after hitching a ride on top of an old delivery truck heading towards the border town of Wadi Halfa.
The starting point of the journey was the Nile Delta in Egypt. From there I followed Northeast Africa's most important life source through the vast Saharan desert, reaching the Egyptian - Sudanese border after around one month.
Left for Wadi Halfa from Aswan at night in a bus packed full of cargo and 10 people. Getting on and off is a lesson in parkour. Reach border at 10 AM the next day. Friendly shopkeeper shares some of his imported goods with us.
Border crossing takes 5-6 hours. Wait for a few hours to find next ride. Jump on the back of a truck for a 30km ride with a group from South Sudan. Our new friend Abdo helps find us a place to stay in the town as most places full. Go for dinner, which a friendly sudanese man paid for welcoming us to Sudan. Then get invited to tea and zalabia by the friedly shopkeeper we met at the border.
Go to register at local police station the next day. Given the official documents of another traveller as a template. Then go to exchange dollars into sudanese pounds. Inflation high leading to a wad of notes. Hopefully will last as no cash machines available.

After spending a couple of days in Wadi Halfa it's time to hitchhike towards Abri with Mahmood...
